FB event page For our opening event of 2017, Dr Carolyn Broderick (SEM staff specialist at Westmead Children's Hospital) shared her widespread experiences in the SEM field - clinics, research, sports coverage and more! Highlight was her role as the Deputy Medical Director of the Australian team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Her SEM Registrar, Dr Nicole Sly, shared her experiences so far - transitioning from physiotherapist to SEM registrar, selection into the ACSEP training program, the training program itself, and the number of sports coverage she's already been able to do. |

Event #2: Fracture Management & Plastering

FB event page Co-hosted with UNSW AICEsoc, students were introduced to the principles of fracture management by Dr Josh Smith (Orthopaedic Fellow), before getting hands-on in a plastering workshop. |
Event #3: Daily Life Nutrition, Debunking Myths and Sports Diet Management

FB event page Dr Sharron Flahive (SEM physician at The Stadium) and Peta Carige (sports dietitian at The Stadium) shared their individual experiences regarding the role of nutrition when dealing with athletes at the elite and community level. Peta emphasised the role that improved nutrition played in the Australian Women's Rugby 7s team in winning Olympic Gold at Rio 2016. This event gained a lot of interest from the audience, with an extensive Q&A regarding sports diet. |

Event #4: Lower Limb MSK OSCE Night

Event Date: Wednesday 9th August 2017 (6:00pm-8:30pm)
FB event page Musculoskeletal medicine is a commonly tested component of medical student OSCE examinations, however are often under-taught in the medical curriculum. Co-hosted with SEMSA, Dr John Best (SEM physician at Orthosports) and Dr Carolyn Broderick (SEM physician at Westmead Children's Hospital) covered the common pathologies of the hip and knee respectively, before going through in-depth explanations of their respective examinations. This event was particularly helpful with the 6th yr UNSW medical students having their final exams looming. |
